Statement from Michael Blake on December 13, 2024.
We Won’t Back Down
We made it clear once again that we stand with New York Immigrants and following the law while Eric Adams sits with
deporters, again showing his lack of constitutional respect. While standing with organizations on the front line of justice such as mMake the Road New York, Desis Rising Up and Moving (DRUM), Jews for Racial & Economic Justice, Invisible BK, New York Communities for Change, and many more who represent our working class Immigrant families, we learned once again that Eric Adams is literally fine with sitting with Trump’s Border Czar who is ready and willing to find any way to deport and divide New Yorkers.
After his meeting, Mayor Adams made it obvious that he wants to use Executive Orders to deport people, just like Donald Trump, instead of Executive Orders to protect the people.
We Won’t Back Down.
As a Reverend and a son of Jamaican Immigrants, I know firsthand how immigrant families make our city thrive. We
keep our city’s lights on…
We all need to rally around immigrant families. New Americans and immigrants are the backbone of New York City. They are small business owners, entrepreneurs, care providers, nurses, construction workers, and bus drivers—people who invest in us. Combined, they put more than 100 billion dollars back into the economy providing jobs for working people, revitalizing neighborhoods making them safer, and adding billions of dollars into the Social Security safety net.
To Mayor Adams, as you align with those who fuel fear in our politics and who seek to separate families with a threat of the largest mass deportation in our nation’s history while resisting diversity of ideas, experiences, and cultures—we won’t back down. It is clear that you care more about a pardon than about the people.
In this City, everyone has a seat at the table. We love you, we protect you, we have your back. We’re not going to walk away from our immigrant families. We are standing together and we will win because tomorrow begins today!
