Statement from Michael Blake on December 16, 2024.
Today, New York City’s Campaign Finance Board made the right decision to deny public matching funds to Eric Adams, who is under federal indictment for taking bribes, concealing foreign donations, and defrauding New Yorkers. Since the CFB doesn’t trust him, neither should you.
A key allegation in Adams’ indictment is straw donations for illegal matching funds. Matching funds donations, where eligible New York City contributions can be matched by fellow taxpayers 8:1, are designed to increase participation from residents and have candidates prioritize the people, not corporate donations, in a fair, honest and transparent manner. However, Eric Adams told his team to “delete all messages” about how his campaign raised money because he knew he was breaking the law—and now Donald Trump is signaling he may pardon Adam’s letting us know they are two peas in a corrupt pod.
New Yorkers have a choice: Stay with a corrupt politician who intentionally broke the law so that he can get your hard earned taxpayer money for his campaign or choose change with a moderate leader who has progressive policy wins, management experience and a working class vision focused on cost of living and affordability.
We cannot afford four more years of Eric Adams. The costs to our city are simply too high. If you believe in change, Believe in Blake.
Tomorrow Begins Today.
